LLOYD F. C. PLUMBER Harry Herbert de Beaumont LLoyd, was born near Wangaratta, Victoria in 1873, son of an early colonist in that district whose family can claim the greatest distinction in heraldry, was the sixty ninth generation in an unbroken male line. His ancestry dates back 2000 years to Belinue, the Great King of Britian. After spending his youth on the land, Harry was lured to the goldfields of Western Australia about the turn of the century. He eventually decided to relinquish gold seeking in favour of farming in the Pingelly district. Here he met and married Caroline Webb and they later successfully pioneered a farm property at Bilbarin. Her two sisters Lily and Louisa, married the two Black Brothers related to the Marshall/Black families in Gnowangerup. However in 1922, owing to his wife’s ill health, he settled in Pingelly in a house in Park Street, Always a homely man of more than average ability he spent several years with a coach building firm, With the decline of the horse and buggy he followed the building trade for many years. He was a familiat sight in Pingelly as he drove his motor cycle and sidecar, a popular form of transport in those days.

His son, Fred, was given a Surprise Party on Thursday evening the 25th October 1934, organised by about thirty of his friends. A pleasant evening was spent in community singing and games, followed by supper, at the conclusion of which Rev. R. Steer, on behalf of the gathering, presented Mr. Lloyd with a pair of gold cuff links. He conveyed the best wishes of all present and wished Fred every success and happiness in his new position at Gnowangerup. In 1937 he joined his son, Fred in Gnowangerup where he took over the plumbing business of Albert Pratt. At a time when many would think of retiring. Harry applied himself to his new environment with all the vigour of a much younger man. People will remember him for the essential service he carried on during the war years and for his will to keep things going and for his cheerful nature. |
